Cathy Germay graduated with honors from College for Creative Studies in 2005 with a BFA in Fine Arts. After graduation, she returned to her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan where she quickly acquired an art studio #406F in the Park Trades Center. Every month, she participates in the local art hops by opening her studio doors to the public so that they can view and purchase her artwork.
Cathy was born with a genetic condition called Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), which causes her blood vessels to hemorrhage and break. In 2003, she underwent a lung surgery to remove an AVM (artery vein malformation) that was bleeding from her left lung. The surgery caused her to have chronic pain on the left side of her body. Since 2003, she has underwent numerous procedures and surgeries to treat chronic pain and other AVMs in her body.
Because of her medical conditions, her artwork focuses on the fragility of the human body. She is interested in exploring where mechanical and electronic parts merge and intersect with the human body.
Her artistic influences are Frida Kahlo Leonor Fini, and Hollis Sigler.
