Cathy Germay, is participating in this year's Westminster Art Festival. This is the fifth annual Art Festival that Westminster Presbyterian Church has sponsored in celebration of Earth Day. This year's theme is "illimitably earth." Artists were asked to create artwork in response to e.e. cummings poem, "I thank You God for most this amazing."
Cathy's contribution is a 20"x 20" acrylic painting on canvas titled, "All is One and One is All."
She has this to say about her painting:
"In 'All is One and One is All' I explore the universal oneness of all things. Carl Saganfamously said, "We're made of star stuff," meaning that the, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen atomsof our bodies, were once produced inside a star. When the star died and became a supernova, itdispersed these atoms, as well as other heavy elements, throughout the universe. All life formson Earth contain these atoms, therefore, literally and figuratively, we are all connected to everyliving thing on Earth. If we hurt someone or something, we are essentially hurting ourselves. Conversely, if we help life on Earth thrive, we ensure that we, ourselves, will thrive. Once wehave experienced this connection between nature and ourselves, as e.e. cummings wrote in hispoem "I thank You God for most this amazing," how can we not believe that a Creator hasorchestrated this symphony of connectedness?"
Several cash prizes will be awarded, as well as a People's Choice award which the public can vote for.

Cathy Germay won the People's Choice Award for her painting, "The Arrogance of Man," at the Westminster Art Festival located at 1515 Helen Ave, Portage, Michigan 49002.
"The Arrogance of Man," depicts the way humans believe they can improve on nature, often leading to disaster. For example, scientists wanted to improve the honey bee, so they bred African bees with local bees, creating Africanized or "killer" bees. These hybrid bees escaped and spread through the Americas by interbreeding with local bees, transforming normal hives into aggressive ones.
In the painting, the mechanical raven represents man's tendency to experiment with nature, often destroying nature's ecosystem, which is represented by the carcass beneath the raven's feet. In the future, man must proceed cautiously because every action disrupts nature's balance."The Arrogance of Man" Acrylic on Canvas 12" x 12"
